Won't you let me knock, knock, knock on wood?

I love old songs so it's imperative for me to really like The Knocks. They have covered Eddie Floyd's Knock on Wood, The Supreme's You Can't Hurry Love, The Temptations' Ain't Too Proud to Beg and Marvin Gaye's Ain't No Mountain High Enough--just to name a few. I think they're awesome (although they are yet to cover Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness*, and I'm just going to go nuts when they do because I love that song!). I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think the late 50's to the late 70's is a golden time in music.

Anyhoo, Keish blogged about The Knocks in her very cool music blog, check it:

Now available for your enjoyment is The Knocks' latest gem, The Same Old Songs. The 6-song mini-album is a collection of some of the boys' favorite classic motown, soul and pop records remixed and covered for a generation. Enjoy!

Track List:
1. Knock On Wood (Cover)
2. Same Old Song (Remix)
3. Can't Hurry Love ft. Alex Winston (Cover)
4. Keep Me Hangin' On (Remix)
5. Ain't Too Proud To Beg (Cover)
6. Ain't No Mountain ft. Julia (Cover)

I think I'm a little bit in love with you

Hands down, I'm too proud for love
But with eyes shut, it's you I'm thinking of
But how we move from A to B, it can't be up to me
Cos I don't know eye to eye
Thigh to thigh, I let go

Lykke Li - Little Bit
I can't believe this song has been around for four years now! It's been stuck in my head the whole work week and I have to say, it's such an underrated song. Drizzy Drake joined Lykke in a remix but I like the original version better.

Happy weekend! :)

Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

Happy Valentine's day to everyone. This year's Heart's Day has been extra nice so I'm spreading the cheer by sharing a song! While I'll have to postpone the long update for the weekend, I have time to share this wonderful ode to love by a great singer named Elena Jane (Ellie Goulding). It's a cover of Elton John's Your Song (which, if you're not a British Pop fan, you have probably heard on the movie Moulin Rouge) and it's a fantastic song of love, completeness and satisfaction. This song has been a particular favorite of mine ever since I can recall and I'm glad it has made its way through my consciousness again.

Every year, I pick a song for Valentine's Day. Last year, it was a tie between Best Coast's When I'm With You and Arctic Monkeys' Baby, I'm Yours and while both are still favorites of mine to this day, I think it's time for a new song. I found myself with this song stuck in my head the whole day yesterday. I'm not complaining though, it's a great one.

Listen and enjoy!

Your Song - Ellie Goulding
"It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money, but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
I know it's not much, but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song, and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well, a few of the verses, well, they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting, but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world"

Speaking of sharing, my lovely friend Keishia put up two mixes for Valentine's day. Check out Sweet Disposition here and Slow Dance (I'll Put A Spell On You) here. Between the two, I like Sweet Disposition better but I guess that's because musical preference depends on one's mood. A huge part of me hopes I won't have to listen to Slow Dance for quite a while but whatever, right? Both mixes are awesome and if you think your music library is worth your salt, please get both. Also, you might find The Lonely Hearts Club playlist comforting should you decide you can't relate to either of the aforementioned playlists. It's also one of my favorites and, according to the Keishia herself, is a big hit among the blog's followers. I just love B's Why don't you love me?, that's all. Hehe. ;)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Pour Un Garçon Français

I'm re-posting this entry from dancelikeweusedto, even if I've reblogged it on tumblr. What's the use of having so many social networking sites if I can't waste online space? I'm also re-posting because a.) it's my favorite music blog and b.) I have no time to write about the uneventful phenomena that is my life. Also, I really, really, really like this entry because it is dedicated to me and my (unrealistic love for) Yoann Gourcuff. I am as self-involved as self-involved goes but does it really matter? Of course not, as long as it amounts to good music between your ears. Thank you, Keishia. My week is made. (I can't wait for it to end. It's only a monday, go figure!)

dancelikeweusedto:

Album cover (L-R): Gaspard Ulliel, Louis Garrel and Yoann Gourcuff aka prominent Frenchmen whose intense stares got girls saying, "Oh mon dieu! Oui oui, prenez-moi!"

1. Moi Je Joue by Brigitte Bardot
2. Tout Doucement by Feist
3. Tu Es Beau by Yelle
4. You and I by Ingrid Michaelson
5. Tongue Tied by Charlie Winston
6. La Liste by Rose
7. Like A Star by Corinne Bailey Rae
8. Le Ciel Dans Une Chambre by Carla Bruni
9. Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova
10. Little Bit by Lykke Li
11. La Vie En Rose by Edith Piaf

'Pour Un Français Garçon' is a compilation of French love songs. I made a few exceptions by including some English songs to lengthen and complete this mix. This mix is for Reisha and her petit ami, Yoann Gourcuff. And to everyone who's hang up on a French guy. Pour moi, c'est Gaspard Ulliel.

Bisous,
Ton amie Keishia

P.S. I messed up with the grammar, it's supposed to be 'garçon français', but whatever, right? I don't want to redo everything.

I got the world in my hand, the masterplan

I've been listening to (and loving!) this track the whole day. It's just really good and I believe we haven't had something like this in a while. Kanye West (YEEZY!), Kid Cudi, John Legend, Lloyd Banks, Pusha T and Ryan Leslie in one track! How awesome is that? I thought it was an homage to gorgeous models at first but when I listened to the song, I realized it was written for the homegirls! FINALLY, NO? *virtual high-fives all around!* Why Christian Dior when the megabrand is really spelled as Cristian? I don't know, I guess spelling it as such is just a lawsuit waiting to happen or a profit waiting to be divided. What I do know is that I really, really, really like this song. Drake and Swizz Beatz' Fancy might be my current favorite (I just love Fancy! Intelligent too/Ooh, you're my sweetheart/I've always liked my women book and street smart/) but this song comes a really close second. I uploaded them for kicks. Go get 'em! They're just sooooo good.

Some girls just walk in the light. Indeed.

Easy listening Thursdays

New Mayer Hawthorne! This new 12" is produced by Nottz and it definitely has a lot of soul. Originally sung by Otis Leavill in 1969, I Need You is bittersweet but easy on the ears. I love how Mayer Hawthorne blurs the lines between Motown and Hip Hop. It throws me back to the time when it was both the advent of hip-hop and the hey day of motown, where the Rat Pack reigned but at the same time, Harlem became cool. This song makes me think about the Bronx during the 1960's. Who wouldn't want to get some good old lovin', touchin', squeezin' from the up-and-coming crooners back then? Artistic, soulful, passionate, wielding a newly discovered art form full of song and power? Ah, such energy! Enjoy! :)

Music for our club

Reblogged from Keishia's music blog:

Pretty much self-explanatory. A mix about finding love, hoping someone loves you and being alone. This is for my friends namely Anj, Arra, Pat, Peej, Reisha, Ria, Tantan and to all the single girls/boys out there. Join the club!

Love Me Already by Black Kids
"Can't you love, love, love me already
Love, love, love me already, baby"

Flash a Hungry Smile by Mystery Jets
(It's about a guy who seems to be a predator but he says if you give him a chance then you might actually like him. There is no harm in trying.)

"Come back to me no need to hide
Make a little room for me tonight"

Animal by Neon Trees
(To those oblivious or hard-to-get girls)

"I kinda wanna be more then friends
So take it easy on me
I'm afraid you're never satisfied"

We Get On by Kate Nash
(To those guys who don't notice how much effort we put in getting your attention. A little sensitivity or a compliment would be nice.)

"I just think that we'd get on
I wish I could tell you face to face
Instead of singing this stupid song
But yeah, I just think that we might get on"

2 Atoms In A Molecule by Noah And The Whale
"I woke from the dream
To realise I was alone
A tragic event, I must admit
But let's not be overblown"

Unattainable by Little Joy
"Oh, if you find yourself
amongst the lonely ones
I'll be waiting here with open arms"

Brightest Hour by The Submarines
(This song is full of hope. When does that day arrive?)

"Wandering through starry skies
And when tomorrow's day arrives
I'll be a moment closer to the
Brightest Hour here with you"

When I Go by Slow Club
(It's a pact between friends that if they are not married by this certain age, then they themselves should get married. Borderline desperate, that's how we roll!)

"If we're both not married by twenty-four
Will you pass me those knee pads and I'll get on the floor"

Wonderful World by James Morrison
"Well I know that it's a wonderful world, from the sky down to the sea
I can only see it when you're here, here with me"

Corners Of Your Mind by Ivy
(It's about not knowing someone, like a missed opportunity.)

"And it only goes to show
There are worlds I'll never know
There are rooms I'll never find
In the corners of your mind "

Why Don't You Love Me by Beyonce
(Beyonce cannot be any clearer. PREACH, B!)

"Why don't you love me?
when I make me so damn easy to love
Why don't you need me?"

Somebody To Love by Justin Bieber
(Guys, don't stone me to death for including this song, okay? I really like this song.)

"I don't need nothing else,
I promise girl, I swear.
I just need somebody to love!!!"

Love Today by Mika

(We'll find love in our own way maybe not necessarily with someone. It can be something, someplace or anyone at all.)

"Everybody's gonna love today, gonna love today, gonna love today
Everybody's gonna love today, gonna love today"

Cover: According to legend, each leaf represents something: the first is for hope, the second is for faith, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck. Sadly, I only placed a three leaf clover for aesthetical reason. This clover represents luck for everyone who seeks love.

The playlist Keishia promised to make for us, The Lonely Hearts Club, is up and it is wonderful. I love every song, every description, every message carried in this mix. So I did a Tumblr and "reblogged" her post to further pimp out the awesomeness that is her taste in music. Download! Download! If you're tired of sitting, waiting, wishing (a la Jack Johnson) for the one you love, whether because of distance or some unforeseen, irrelevant circumstance a.k.a shiteous current girlfriends, this mix is an invitation to sit, wait and wish some more--for the same person, or for someone else. You never know.

With love,
The Lonely Hearts Club

Will you still love me tomorrow?

I'm sitting on my bed watching my mom fix my luggage. What better way to ward off sentimental thoughts than to watch a superb performance of The Shirelles? This is a beautiful song. One of my favorite love songs. ♥
